Sweet Proposal

I'm not the type who would feel comfortable with this type of wedding proposal (ack!! all those eyes on me!) but this video is so, so sweet. He looks so happy and the idea of the whole thing is very touching

I saw an article on about Kristi Yamaguchi who is celebrating the 20th anniversary of winning her Olympic Gold in Albertville, France and I can't believe that was 20 years ago! Now she's 40 and married with two kids. Where the heck did time go? I NEVER would have guessed that was 20 years ago!

Just for fun I looked up other major events from 1992 and was surprised most of these events were 20 years ago too. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Mall of America was constructed, all 78 acres
  • Hurricane Andrew hits the Homestead, FL area. Which, by the way, sometimes I travel through there for work, some of that area STILL shows where the hurricane hit! You can see where trees are permanently growing crooked because they were blown that direction in the wind. Also, both my sister in law and my next door neighbor lost 100% of their homes during that hurricane. Our neighbor had to have a survey done to see what land was his because there was nothing there, even the foundation of his home was gone!
  • President Clinton is elected
  • John Gotti gets life in prision
  • LA Riots--wow, was this really 20 years ago? I remember it was kinda scary not knowing whether or not the violence would spread to other parts of the country.
  • Prince Charles and Princess Diana separate

  • Gas Price was $1.05 per gallon
  • Average income was $30,030
  • ATT released a video phone for $1499 (I didn't know that)
  • Microsoft Works was released
  • Nicotene patch was invented

Vacation Details

I've never bothered to do much with our vacation photos from last year when my husband and I went on the Royal Caribbean "Allure of the Seas", because my old computer was in the process of dying. Now that my new computer is here and very much alive I'm trying to get stuff from the old and move it to the new. We've booked another cruise for this summer, this time with the kids, on the Royal Caribbean "Oasis of the Seas" so it was fun looking at the old vacation photos to get a bit of a refresher. I'll post more as I organize them but one detail which I'd forgotten is too funny not to post now. Not funny as in "ha ha" more like funny as in "who the heck designed this? Liberace?"

To get to the casino from the main Promenade you need to take a spiral staircase down a level (I think just one, maybe 2?). The pattern on the wall, the floor and the stairs are so bold and funky it was very distracting. Not in a bad way. Distracting as in "this is awesome, its a pimp's staircase". I actually had to make a conscious effort to hold onto the railing because there was just so much to look at. Behold, the pimp's staircase into his crazy sex lair Casion Royale entrance. Awesome, right?

Hearing Their Voice

I didn't watch the Whitney Houston funeral but I did catch a glimpse of some of the scenes on the news last night. One thing I've been thinking about is how it must be to be the loved one of someone famous who is gone. I recently found a note in a box I was going through and it was from my aunt who passed away a few years ago I was reminded of this while looking at the Whitney Houston funeral footage. The last clip was her family being escorted out of the funeral home while "I Will Always Love You" was played loudly for all to hear. Hearing someone's voice again after they've died is always a nice little thing to hang on to, as are the little slips of their handwriting we may come across. I wonder if it would be better or worse to know you have hundreds of hours of footage to look back on, if your loved one just happened to be insanely famous? I can still hear "Hi, you've reached Faith's cell. I can't come to the phone right now but leave me a message and I'll call you back--if you are lucky. Just kiddin', leave a message and I'll return your call", which was played at the end of a friend's funeral almost a decade ago. Those 10 seconds of her voice and the little slip of paper I found from my aunt are nice, little, bittersweet reminders of people I loved and cared about. I can't imagine what it would be like if I could access clips of them online 24/7.

If you happen to like Ms. Houston, take a look at some of these videos. MTV actually played videos at one time! Whitney Houston Videos

Potential Panic Attack

When I walked out of the grocery store today this is what I saw when I got out to my car. Only, this was not my car. It is the same exact color and was parked right next to mine but I am happy to report that the giant dent was not on my car. I don't know why but my car attracts all things like grocery carts, the edges of people's car doors and various other things. It frustrates my husband SO much because he's one of those anal neat freaks and he LOVES making sure the cars are clean and well taken care of. Out of all the minor dents and dings on my car none are my fault but it still has acquired quite a few from other people. My daughter and I both thought this gray car was mine in the parking lot so we had some fun and sent this picture to my husband. I love messing with him like this, its so easy :)

Girl Can Belt it Out

I LOVE the Whitney Houston version of this song and I think that I like Glee's Amber Riley's version of "I Will Always Love You" as a very close second. Hard to compete with your first experience LOL Actually, I know Dolly Parton wrote the song and has her own version, I just like to think of Whitney and now Amber's DIVA sorta attitude which gives the song a whole new sound. Dolly sings it sweet but Whitney and Amber belt it out for all to hear. Like the death of Michael Jackson, Whitney's death just seems sad because it was preventable if she had not given drugs so much control over her life the last 20 years. RIP Whitney and way to sing it Amber!

An Attainable Bucket List

I don't have a bucket list because the idea of having an "official" list of things I want to do before I die creeps me out. I guess I don't like admitting I'm on my way out, even though we all are on that same route, but I don't want to start the plan now! On Pinterest, its FULL of people posting stuff onto Bucket List boards and I saw this one tonight and it struck me as funny. If you want some easy things to cross off your bucket list, this person has the right idea. Very easy!

The Funniest Thing I've Seen This Week

Jimmy Kimmel challenged his viewers once again to play a prank on their friends and family members and this time was a real winner! The challenge was to unplug the television during the Superbowl and video tape the reactions of those watching the game. I'm usually a fairly quiet person when I'm not being a smart ass but I can assure you I would be up and out of my seat if this happened to me during a game that I was really into. Knowing that the game was soooo close, I really hope that nobody did this stunt at the end of the game. That would be really wrong. FUNNY for a split second but if the end of the game was ruined for me I'd be beyond pissed.

Pain in the Buttooskie

She looks sweet and innocent but this is a cat with a temper and also our fattest cat. Thou shalt not get in the way of her food, Amen. If you pick her up, she growls at you and sometimes if you can annoy hold in just the right way she'll hiss at you. Normally that isn't the result people go for but once Callie hisses at you, if you hiss right back she will hiss again--over and over. Of course, this makes it even more amusing for me ;)

Fun Word Game

Do you like word games? I do. I'm not one of those snooty crossword puzzle sorta person, but I do enjoy playing games and find that the word ones are pretty fun if you are a good speller. I play Words With Friends and Scramble With Friends on my phone sometimes but I've recently found a new game to play on the computer and I thought I'd share it with you.

"Alone" word game

You isolate the letters that make up the word "Alone" by selecting letters that make up other words, at least 3 letters in length. Its kind of like those tile games where they are numbered 1-15 and you have to move them around the board. In Alone, you highlight 3 or more letters that make up a word and you use your arrow keys to push tiles off the board. If you push off one of the letters in Alone you need to undo the move and do another turn. In the end you should just be left with A, L, O, N, and E. I did ok at first but once I figured out you could make small words near the sucky letters like Q or X and use the small words to push those off. Try it out, it will take a time or two to get your strategy down but its fun and doesn't take too much time.

A Little Help From Above

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

Before I got my current job I was a semi-broke single mom putting herself through school penny by penny. During that time between my divorce and when I got my job, I was another American living without healthcare. Now that our country is in a recession, sadly, there are many more people trying to make ends meet and for many there is simply not enough left over to pay for the high cost of private medical insurance. I got sick a few times during those 3 years I didn’t have insurance and let me tell you, the amount I paid out of pocket for prescriptions and antibiotics disgusts me. Luckily now there are other options to help bring the cost down.
Walgreens has a new program called the Prescription Savings Club and it allows you to purchase a yearly membership (single or family) which will cut the cost of your prescriptions dramatically. For only $35 for a family and $20 for an individual you can get discounts on all your prescriptions for the year. The best thing is that it even covers your pets, isn’t that crazy? Very cool though, pets are costly.
Membership gets you discounts on over 8,000 medications but also includes discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions, nebulizers and various diabetic supplies. If your funds are tight, you are unemployed or just under insured the amount of money you can save having this option can be a major blessing. I know that when I was uninsured I didn’t have extra money to pay out of pocket for a lot of things and if I had been diabetic I know that I would not have been able to afford any of those supplies. We take that stuff for granted but really, that stuff adds up for those who need it. Thankfully, they now have this opportunity to have a little help.
To find out more about this program there are a couple of ways you can get more information. Follow them on Walgreens on Twitter and check out their Walgreens on Facebook page or go to the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens

Well That Sucks

I don't know if it would have been better if the Patriots lost big time or not but the outcome sucks all the same. Can't wait until August when all this starts again and all the fair weather fans to go away!

George Clooney--Gotta love him!

I saw this quote from Clooney online today and thought it was worth sharing. I don't know if Clooney actually said this but I do agree with this for the most part. I can't believe its already February and the Republicans are still fighting it out and the Democrats aren't really hyping up Obama. They need to get a move on it so that they have their stuff together once the Republicans figure out who they will support. I was talking to my husband about the election and how it just feels strange to me this time. I don't understand why the sitting President's party isn't really promoting more of his good works, its almost as if he hasn't even entered into the competition yet since all the coverage is about Romney and Gingrich. Should be an interesting summer!!

So, here is what I wanted to share and below that is a classic Clooney story that I never heard before.Very gross/funny!
